With support from Enhanced Capital, City Winery – a hospitality company specializing in mixed-use winery and entertainment venues – has completed the rehabilitation of the historic Montgomery Worsted Mill in Montgomery, New York. The $11.2 million project includes the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the former textile mill structures, including a hydroelectric dam, into a winery, restaurant, wedding venue, and private event space, and conversion of an eight-acre scrap yard into a commercial vineyard. City Winery expects to bring new quality jobs to the community by hiring 75 employees, including 20 to 25 full-time employees.
Enhanced provided critical project financing through the federal and New York Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit programs in May 2020. This job-creating project transformed a 200-year-old textiles mill into a multipurpose development offering unique high-end culinary and cultural experiences to guests.
City Winery is expanding the wine country experience throughout the nation in locations across seven states. The new Hudson Valley location is about an hour northwest of Midtown Manhattan and is the first City Winery located outside of an urban area. Consistent with other City Winery locations, the development will provide a fully functioning winery, tasting room, restaurant, and event space.
The Montgomery property will become the primary wine production center for City Winery’s ten-location chain of venues, producing approximately 10,000 cases of wine each year. The tasting room and restaurant feature a large multi-level deck that surrounds some of the historical artifacts of the old Mill, including antique wooden coal conveyor belts and architecturally unique chimney. When visiting for winery tours, guests experience a sense of discovery and exploration, tastings, and dining experiences.
Situated on 22 acres overlooking the Wallkill River, City Winery Hudson Valley is also particularly well-positioned to host events, weddings, and other social gatherings of all sizes. Indoors, the venue can comfortably accommodate intimate private events for 25 or formal seated dinners for 400 in the large, column-free main hall. When combined with the expansive outdoor spaces, a full venue buyout can easily accommodate 1,000 guests, with stunning views of vineyard and waterfalls.
