Maison de la Luz, a new world-class luxury hotel, is set to open in April 2019 in what was once a New Orleans City Hall building thanks to Historic Tax Credit investments and a bridge loan from Enhanced Capital.
Enhanced Capital provided $4.3 million and $4.4 million in federal and state Historic Tax Credits respectively and a $3.5 million bridge loan toward the project. The new hotel, owned by Domain Companies, will occupy a former City Hall annex undergoing renovations to include 67 rooms, private dining and a cocktail bar operated by Quixotic Projects, a world-renowned group of creative chefs and bartenders. The Maison de la Luz was designed by Studio Shimshiri in coordination with the Ace Hotel Group.
“Our love of New Orleans inspired us to think about different ways to activate its beauty,” said Kelly Sawdon, chief brand officer of Atelier Ace, in a recent article published by Hospitality Design. “Maison de la Luz is a relaxed and idiosyncratic entry point to the city, allowing guests the freedom to explore New Orleans’ singular vibrance, or to seek refuge in a resplendent and private space.”
According to a feature in Surface magazine, the design for the Maison de la Luz was recently previewed in Los Angeles-based Studio Shamshiri.
The project would not have been possible without flexible financing from Enhanced Capital. Once open, the hotel is expected to draw tourism to the area, supporting a key pillar of the local economy. The project is also expected to be a strong job creator for the community.
