The Creative Hub Community Arts Center is transforming a historic former boys’ club in downtown Worcester, MA, into a vibrant hub for arts education, cultural programming, and community space. With support from Enhanced Capital through federal and Massachusetts Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits, the project will preserve a 36,000-square-foot building constructed in 1914 and establish much-needed creative infrastructure in one of the city’s most underserved neighborhoods.
Located in the Main South area, where 33% of residents live below the poverty line and many families have immigrant and refugee backgrounds, the Creative Hub will offer accessible arts programming for youth and adults. The Arts Center will house youth and teen classes and mentorship programming, arts-based mental health workshops, a fine-arts focused makerspace with membership levels for all types of creatives, and much more, supported by a variety of local organizations and institutions.
The renovated facility will include more than 20 artist studios, as well as Worcester’s first fine arts–focused makerspace. Artist tenants will have access to professional-grade equipment, opportunities to exhibit work in the on-site gallery, and the ability to lead community workshops. The maker space will support disciplines such as textile design, printmaking, drawing, and more, filling a critical gap in the region’s creative infrastructure with affordable monthly memberships.
Two flexible event venues will also activate the space year-round for exhibitions, performances, weddings, and other community events. Once complete in early 2026, the Creative Hub is expected to support more than 100 working artists and host over 100 public events annually. Enhanced Capital is proud to support this effort to preserve a historic structure while building access to the arts.
